Smartlipo™ is the first and only FDA approved laser liposuction alternative. Smartlipo™ is a non-invasive procedure that uses laser energy to break up and dissolve fatty tissue below the skins surface. The laser's energy also coagulates the skin, which tightens and tones the skin of the treated area. Traditional liposuction uses a cannula approximately 3-5 mm in diameter that is connected to a suction device. The suction device creates a negative pressure that literally "sucks" the fat away. Smart lipo uses a laser that is only 1 mm in diameter. The laser literally melts away the fat, which makes the removal of this unwanted fatty tissue a fairly gentle process. Because melting the fat is significantly less traumatic to the body, so is the recovery time. In addition, the laser can decrease post-operative bleeding by coagulating small blood vessels. Finally, one of the most unique benefits of Smartlipo™ is the ability of the laser to tighten loose skin around the targeted area.

As with any medical procedure you can expect to have some level of discomfort, however most patients rate this discomfort as very low and definitely manageable. Different targeted areas are more sensitive than others and may result in short instances of discomfort.

The procedure is very safe and complications are extremely rare. The most common side effects are minimal swelling and bruising around the targeted areas.

Yes! SmartLipo permanently removes fat cells from the treated areas. Adults do not produce new fat cells, so once these expanded fat cells are removed they are gone for good. However, it is important to note that this procedure is intended to compliment a healthy lifestyle, not act as a substitute. Patients that eat poorly and fail to exercise will continue to gain weight in different areas of their body.

Most patients will see immediate results following the procedure, and can expect to see their skin return to its desired tightness within three months. However, it is important to be patient, and keep in mind that it may take up to a year before the final results of SmartLipo are realized. The length of time it takes for these final results can vary from case to case and often correlates to the amount of fat that has been removed. When larger amounts of fat are removed a slightly longer period of time may be required before seeing maximized results.
